In February 2024, SUMS Group will come of age and celebrate 21 years in business. It has been a long and sometimes challenging journey, especially over the past few years. However, our team and our clients have consistently delivered some fantastic results along the way.
Reflecting on the last 12 months, in May we sadly lost our dear friend and work colleague Jim Gagen, who had been with SUMS for 13 years. Although Jim is greatly missed, his legacy continues through the strong business relationships he developed while at SUMS.
The past year has also seen SUMS flourish in several market sectors, including commercial/industrial property, AMR, water and energy retailers, and local government to name a few.
We look forward to continuing engagements with our clients and helping new businesses achieve their ESG goals.
From our team to yours, Merry Christmas!

New partnership with Wattwatchers
Our industry partnerships are critical to helping SUMS design and deliver products that serve our clients and the planet well. Most recently we are excited to announce Wattwatchers as a new technology partner. Incorporating Wattwatcher’s electricity CT submetering solution offers our clients even greater visibility and control of their energy performance of assets.
Similar to our existing data loggers, the Wattwatcher’s CT energy meter data is accessible via SUMS+ portal, so customers have all their energy and water data in one place. Watch this space in 2024!
Remove, replace and recycle
“Recycling of lithium-ion batteries is one of the most important technologies to decarbonise future society”, according to Melbourne University researcher, Junnan Lu. As an Australian company that designs and manufactures smart data loggers in this country, it was important for SUMS to also find a recycling solution to avoid end-of-life batteries ending up in landfill. We were thrilled to find Ecobatt – an Australian company specialising in the safe collection, processing and recycling of battery products.
So far we’ve recycled more than 3,500 batteries in just over two years. Learn more about SUMS participation in the Ecobatt Stewardship Program and other recycling solutions within the Ecocycle group that might be right for your organisation too.
The SUMS office will be closed from 22 December, returning on 8 January 2024.
